Kagoshima Pottery

It seems like every place that we go in Japan is famous for its own particular kind of pottery, or "yakimono". Here are some pics of Kagoshima's contribution. It's known as "Satsuma Yaki", and is characterized by its detailed paintings and European style. As with the pottery that is produced in Saga, Satsumayaki was first made by Korean potters, who were brought back to Kagoshima as consolation, after a failed invasion.

Much of the pottery was made specifically for export to Europe.
