きりしま の たけちほだけ aka life on mars

thursday was another national holiday, so we decided to climb takachihodake in kirishima.  we ascended the fog covered volcano watching the scenery change the higher and higher we climbed.  we started in mossy rocks and bright green forest, and then the earth changed from a red clay lava rock to completely black in some areas.  the air smelled like sulfur as we peered down into the otherworldly looking crater.  spooky!  it was a good time, and we were happy to make it back just in time for sundown :D  afterwards we fueled up on rice balls from a convenience store and went for a much needed onsen.  what a day.
